Phophonyane Falls Ecolodge is nestled in the spectacular mountain scenery of north west Eswatini, amid tumbling waterfalls and lush natural forests. It is a favourite destination for discerning travellers seeking a romantic and revitalising hideaway in a setting of stunning beauty.
Phophonyane preserves the now rare and richly biodiverse habitat of the middleveld habitat. Here, along the magical forested trails, one hears the mysterious hoot of the scarlet and emerald feathered narina trogon, the strange whistle of the red duiker, and the bark of the elusive bushbuck.
The waterfalls and cascades tumble over several kilometres of beautifully exposed ancient gneiss, the world’s oldest rock (formed over 3.6 billion years ago).
The lodge is set in spacious gardens with running streams, ponds and waterways. A maximum of 26 guests have the choice of safari tents on decks tucked in the natural forest above the river, luxury beehive huts with spectacular valley views, and mountain facing double-storey thatched cottages. Guests have a choice of self-catering units or dining in the attractive Driftwood Restaurant. Two large swimming pools are available.
The lodge is conveniently located along the main tourism route running north-south from the Kruger national park through Eswatini to northern Kwazulu Natal. It is situated just 70 kms south of Kruger’s Malalane Gate and 35 km south of Eswatini’s Matsamo Border Post.
